Seeing Potential, Giving Back

Employee Spotlight: Tinsae Kebie
Because someone once showed Tinsae care when he was young, he now offers that same care to the next generation of children. Curious to know what shapes his heart for helping others, we took a moment to sit down with Tinsae to learn what fuels his passion as a Residential Child Support Worker at Radiance.

What part of your work feels most meaningful to you?
When I see growth in someone, something new that wasn’t there before, I know they’ve learned something valuable or gained something positive out of an interaction with me. Moments like that make me feel like I’m making a difference in somebody’s life.
Why do you do the work you do?
I was at a crucial point in my life when I met the adult who changed everything for me. They kept saying they saw potential in me, and I didn’t believe them. I thought, “They must be blind— how could they see potential in someone who has nothing?” But they stayed. I’m so thankful for them. They gave me opportunities. They guided me and helped me grow. That’s when I realized there really are good adults out there. I wanted to be like that, like them, who helped me and my family. I wanted to give that same kind of support for the next child. I still thank that person to this this day, because without them, I don’t think I would be where I am.
What is something that we don’t know about you?
People often think I’m very outgoing because of my field of work. And I do have high spirits when I’m with people who need my support. But when it’s just me, I’m actually an introvert. I like to journal or take short drives around the city— just me and my thoughts.
